Adopting a Child

The Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ) of the CIUSSS de l'Estrie – CHUS offers the necessary services for child adoption, whether regular, mixed bank, or international adoption.

  • Regular adoption: This is done after a general consent to adoption following a birth.
  • Mixed bank adoption: In the case of children receiving child protection services.
  • International adoption: For children from abroad.

Regular or Mixed Bank Adoption

You must first contact the DYP's adoption services in order to register by phone for an information session.

Certain prerequisites are necessary, such as:* 

  • Stable personal life for two years (in a couple and cohabiting for at least two years or alone for at least two years) 
  • Good physical and psychological health
  • No criminal record
  • Permanent resident or Canadian citizen
  • Income above the poverty line

In the case of an international adoption, you must first consult the page on international adoption on the Government of Quebec website before contacting DYP's adoption services.
