Case of COVID-19 in a Seniors’ ResidenceFriday March 27, 2020 | News
The Direction de la santé publique of CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS is continuing its efforts to contain the COVID-19 outbreak that occurred in a Sherbrooke seniors' residence on Sunday morning.
The Estrie public-health team is continuing its epidemiological investigation to ensure that all contacts of people infected with COVID-19 are reached.
Each of them is instructed, among other things, to monitor their symptoms during isolation. People with symptoms or who develop symptoms in the next few days have been or will be tested at the residence.
Employees at the seniors' residence with at least one symptom of fever, cough, or difficulty breathing have also been tested. They are in isolation in their homes awaiting results.
"The excellent collaboration of the residence's management and the quick, efficient support of the Sherbrooke Police Department allowed us to intervene as soon as we were made aware of the confirmation of an initial infection at the residence," related Dr. Alain Poirier, the head of public health at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS. "The good management of hospitalizations and medical follow-up at the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke is also greatly contributing to controlling the outbreak."
