Opening of 4 COVID-19 test centres in EstrieTuesday March 17, 2020 | News
In order to limit the risks of propagation of COVID-19, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS will open four test centres in its jurisdiction.
They will be located at Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke (tent), Hôpital de Granby (tent), CSSS du Granit (hospital emergency department), and Hôpital, CLSC, and centre d’hébergement d’Asbestos (hospital emergency department).
Three Criteria for Testing
- Returning from a trip outside Canada
- Having one or more of these symptoms:
- Breathing difficulties
- The symptoms must have started within 14 days of returning from the trip.
Also, only people domiciled in Estrie will be tested in the CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS test centers.
Individuals meeting all of these criteria can come to one of the four COVID-19 test centres without an appointment.
Individuals with severe symptoms might be asked to wait for the results at the hospital. The others will be asked to return home to wait for the test results with instructions on what to do in isolation.
"This is the stage of the pandemic in which we must exercise the utmost caution to minimize its spread," pointed out Dr. Alain Poirier, Directeur de la santé publique of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS. "The collective welfare must take precedence, and that is why we are putting all these measures in place."
Lyne Cardinal, Director des services généraux, stated that "it isn't necessary to test everyone returning from travel. So, we won't be testing someone coming from a trip if they don't have any symptoms."
